When designing the chairs, Mogensen was inspired by a medieval Spanish furniture technique in which saddle leather was attached to a solid wooden frame. This was a technique he often used in his designs, and also the The Spanish Dining Chair consists of a simple oak frame and beautiful saddle leather forming the seat and backrest.
